Democracy is changing, not least in digital spaces. We mustn’t passively standby but get active.

In our project “Upgrade Democracy”, we build bridges between diverse, international actors and disseminate solutions that successfully counter disinformation in their respective contexts and/or innovatively use digital tools to strengthen democracy.

Perspectives

Digital disinformation campaigns exist all over the world. How do relevant actors deal with them?

Which approaches, strategies or innovative tools are particularly successful and which can be transferred to Germany and Europe?

We shed light on these and other questions in the “Perspectives” section. Read more about good examples, challenges and options for action from around the world.

Impulse

Platform governance: How can existing digital platforms be democratically organized? And what options are there for alternative models?

We want to provide impetus on key issues of platform governance. Among other things, we will shed light on alternative communication infrastructures such as the Fediverse, look at participation formats such as platform councils and discuss the dynamics surrounding climate and gender-specific disinformation.

Visions

How will digital technologies change democracy in the coming years? How can we gear policy-making today more towards the future?

Politics must focus on the digital technology challenges of the future. This is the only way it will remain capable of acting and fit for the future.

Together with experts, we develop scenarios, derive recommendations for policymakers and then enter into an exchange with decision-makers.
